Pretty much all modern computers be they MAC or PC include some form of onboard soundcard, you will probably have plugged your headphones into the small socket on the back or side of the device without actually realising that is exactly what it is! The fundamental differences between the interface that was purchased as an integral part of your computer when it came out of the box and the Focusrite Pro 40 unit (pictured at the top of the page) are: the Pro 40 obviously sits externally to your computer and there are several more inputs and outputs than the one/s on your computer! Now taking that into consideration it is perfectly feasible that the computer on it’s own, running some ‘freeware’ which is openly available on the internet may be all you need to create and listen to your sounds.
